Improved CPU spikes caused by external MIDI inputs on OSX. Improved the reliability and priority of the audio thread when using ASIO drivers. This contributes a noticeable performance improvement and fixes a few cases where Live would drop out when using certain audio interfaces. Improved the performance of Ableton Devices on Windows. Preferences in Ableton Live 3. Go multicore. Today almost all CPUs are equipped with multiple cores. In order to reduce CPU load in Ableton Live and efficiently distribute the load to these cores, you should ensure that the “Multicore / Multi CPU support” option is active. You can find this option in the tab “Preferences / CPU”. Jan 21, 2019 Hi, I'm using Studio one 3.5.6 and I'm getting CPU spikes and crackles. I've looked through some threads and videos and did the things that were said there: I set dropout protection to maximum and I increased the buffer size to my max (1024).My Audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4.
Jan 10, 2020 hey, this is a late reply. Just purchased a 2018 Mac Mini i7-6 Core/ 8GB ddr4 Ram/ 512SSD/ Intel graphics. I’ve been getting CPU spikes on very non-taxing things. 1 instance of Ableton Wavetable + Soundtoys echoboy is at about 18%. It runs much quicker than my last iMac 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core i5, but it seems unusual to have spikes this large. In ableton 10 i am idling while playing it around 40% CPU usage which is fine and kind of similar to the usage in ableton 9.6.1, but every 20 seconds im getting huge cpu spikes to 80-90 for a second causing audio dropout during that second, and also random crackles. All ASIO settings are same as i had in ableton 9, buffer size is the same etc.
Ableton Cpu Spikes Mac 10
Hello all,Ableton Cpu Load Meter
I wanted to share this with you because I really couldn't believe it. Maybe it will help some of you with your issues if you have unexplained CPU spikes and glitching audio.I have a desktop powerhouse I7 8GB with dedicated graphics fast SSD system drive and separate 7200 drive for audio recording and another drive for samples.
No problem right? Wrong. Live 9 has been a pain. The CPU meter jumping around all over the place in large and small projects. My audio was crackling and popping every now and then and I am sure this is the reason. I tried all the usual tweaks, buffer size, background services, turn off wifi etc etc. No luck.
Strangely I found that turning off multiprocessor support made things better. Not completely better but the spikes seemed to be reduced and CPU use was less. This seemed really weird.
The other thing. Other DAWs were fine. Studio One etc all run smoothly.
Anyhow. My system is a Dell. I remember looking in power options before and the system was set to 'Dell Balanced'. I didn't think much of it. Until I looked more closely.

For a desktop PC, Dell by default had put together a power profile that throttled my CPU down to 5% minimum and 100% max. It was as if I had a laptop on power saving mode. There was no need for Dell to do this and I never in a million years thought a high spec desktop would have a crippling power saving profile.
So I switched the profile to high performance. 100% min and 100% max CPU and loaded up ableton.
Suddenly no spikes, low stable CPU use and multiprocessor mode made things even better (as it is meant to!).
Now this doesn't explain why other DAWs were fine. But I guess Ableton is more resource hungry.
Nevertheless. Check and double check your power settings in windows because it could be that which is throttling your CPU down. It seems obvious now, but I really was shocked to find that my desktop was being hamstrung by a silly Dell power management profile.
Hope this helps some of you.
